7 Best 3 Person Card Games You Can Buy Right Now

Three players can be an awkward number for a lot of games — too many for some, not quite enough for others. If you’re specifically shopping for 3 person card games, though, you’re in luck: a solid handful of games are actually built for exactly this group size, and they hold their own against anything designed for four or more.
Here are 7 of the best 3 person card games, compared and rated, so you know exactly what to buy.
7 Best 3 Person Card Games, Compared
1. Skat
A German classic and one of the most respected three-player trick-taking games in the world. Skat rewards bidding strategy, careful trick planning, and reading your opponents — it’s a proper strategic workout once you get the hang of it. Physical decks and Skat card sets are widely available from card game retailers.
Our Rating: 4.3/5
2. Rummy 500
A step up from basic Rummy, Rummy 500 adds scoring depth and more decision-making around what to lay down and when. It plays cleanly with three and keeps everyone engaged round after round. Most standard playing card decks work, or you can buy a dedicated Rummy 500 set with a scoring pad included.
Our Rating: 4.1/5
3. Egyptian Ratscrew
This fast-paced slapping game scales nicely to three players, adding more chaos and more chances to get caught out. It’s reflex-driven, loud, and a guaranteed way to wake a room up. Any standard deck will do here.
Our Rating: 4.0/5
4. President (Scum)
A brilliant social card game where players race to offload their hand first, with a shifting hierarchy of "President" and "Scum" each round. It’s simple to learn, endlessly replayable, and works especially well with three.
Our Rating: 4.4/5
5. Cassino
A South African favourite that holds up just as well with three as it does with two — matching and capturing cards off the table while keeping an eye on what your opponents are setting up.
Our Rating: 4.4/5
6. Kemps (Signals)
A quirky, signal-based matching game that gets funnier the more players try (and fail) to keep a straight face. With three players it’s fast-paced and full of bluffing.
Our Rating: 3.9/5
7. HaiBoo Kasi Edition
HaiBoo Kasi Edition was built with groups in mind, and three players is right in its comfort zone — enough people for real kasi vibes, without losing the fast pace. What sets it apart from the rest of this list is that it’s built entirely around Mzansi humour, so you’re getting local references and the kind of trash talk that only makes sense if you grew up here, instead of imported rules and generic gameplay. It’s also the easiest game on this list to buy right now, in stock and ready to ship.
